2207: Understanding Trauma as a Spectrum: Microtrauma to PTS

2207:  Understanding Trauma as a Spectrum: Microtrauma to PTSD.   Trauma is defined as an emotional response to a deeply disturbing or life-threatening event that overwhelms an individual's ability to cope. The effects of experiencing a traumatic event can range from mildly disruptive to full-blown Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As clinicians, we are trained to recognize Trauma and PTSD but often fail to see small injuries, aka trauma with a little 't'. Shifting the understanding of trauma to being on a spectrum will encourage clinicians to recognize and treat microtrauma more effectively. In this workshop, Social Workers will learn how to recognize the effects of trauma on the mind and body; identify the symptoms of trauma on a spectrum from Microtrauma to PTSD, and adapt evidence-informed trauma assessments and treatment models to address microtrauma.
