State Department of Education
is developing effectiveness measures for a variety
of functions within the school system. Through this
communication method, the school social work staff along with other
professions in the Louisiana Department of Education advised that
they are working on establishing progress monitoring in these
respective disciplines. This staff would greatly appreciate
your sharing your models, including software, you are currently
using to monitor the progress of your students. Their is a
deadline of February 12, 2010, therefore, if you have any
information you would like to share prior to this deadline, please

Leaders Sought for 2010 NASW-LA Board Positions
Nominate a colleague
or yourself, (candidates must be members of NASW), for one of the
following positions:
Statewide-President Elect; Vice
President, BSW Member at Large, BSW Student Representative or MSW
Student Representative; Regional-New Orleans Regional
Representative; Florida Parishes Regional Chair; Baton Rouge
Regional Representative; Alexandria Regional Chair; Lake Charles
Regional Chair; Shreveport Regional Chair and Monroe Regional
Chair. Also, positions are available on the Chapter Committee for
Nomination and Leadership Identification in the Florida Parishes,
Alexandria, Lake Charles, Shreveport and Monroe Regions.
All positions are for 2 year
terms, except for the Student positions on the board, which are 1
year terms. For more information, please check with your Regional
Chair and/or your Regional CCNLI Representative for more information
on the positions and for the forms that need to be completed and
returned to the Chapter Office by December 30, 2009.

Leonard Dufour Scholarship
NASW
announces the formation of a new scholarship in memory of the late
Leonard Dufour. Leonard was known for his gentle and caring
personality and his commitment to the social work profession. He was
also known for his dedication to his family including his spouse,
Bobbie and two sons, Jake and Todd who followed in their father’s
footsteps by becoming social workers. He was a graduate of LSU in
1968 and worked as a guidance counselor, pupil appraisal and at
Angola State Prison during his career.
Leonard
Dufour was a man of his word and believed in family and work ethics.
In honor of Leonard, NASW has created a scholarship committed to the
principles and values that were close to him. There will be a
minimum of $500.00 awarded yearly with the hopes that this amount
will increase as people donate to the fund. To be eligible for the
scholarship the following must apply: 1) part time or full time
student who holds a job while attending a school of social work.; 2)
Attendance at a Bachelor or Masters Social Work Program which is an
accredited school ; 3) Is not receiving any other financial
assistance for education.

along with proof of your student status and employment.
